Device drivers are generally operating system-dependent and are unusable on other operating systems. There are exceptions, however. For instance, Linux can use ndiswrapper to use Windows drivers for wireless cards. Nvidia's drivers are also composed of two parts, an operating system-independent (but platform specific) binary blob and an operating system-dependent wrapper.
