How can I start a new Wikianswers in my language? Rephrase this question

Wikianswers is available in many languages. If your own language is not yet in the list and you want to develop a new site, create a wiki and then contact Wikia to have it converted into a Wikianswers site.

We hope to expand Wikianswers into 100 different languages!

Before adding any questions, translate Category:Un-answered questions and category:answered questions at MediaWiki:Unanswered category and MediaWiki:Answered category.

1. Add your user pages (see What types of user page are there on Wikianswers?)
2. Create a main page.
3. Add some help pages, like Where can I find Wikianswers help?
4. Improve the interface text (see below)
5. Customize the Wikianswers toolbox
6. Add questions of your own.
7. Help to answer questions that other people add.
8. Add categories to as many questions as you can so that people can find them.
9. Invite people to the wiki.
10. Welcome people and thank them when they add good answers.
11. Find some trusted users to become administrators to help keep the wiki clean.
12. Promote the wiki and try to attract some new contributors
13. Adapt the welcome messages for welcome bot to use.

Check Special:Allmessages on the English wiki to see which interface messages have been adapted for Wikianswers and decide whether to make the same changes in your own language. Make sure all messages on your wiki are in the right language and not in English.

You can ask staff to add subdomain redirects for you. For example, the German wiki can be accessed at both frag.wikia.com and de.answers.wikia.com. You can make "answers" in your language the primary address for your wiki.

If the wiki doesn't seem to be working in the same way as the English edition, ask staff to check that wgEnableAnswers has been turned on.

[edit] Translating the interface text

MediaWiki uses "messages" to create the interface. Each of these can be translated.

Make sure your language is set to the same language as the wiki you are editing. For example, if you are starting a French Wikianswers, set your language to French to ensure you edit the correct interface messages.

The most important messages to translate are MediaWiki:Unanswered category and MediaWiki:Answered category as these automatically get added to questions. You should translate these before any questions are asked. Be sure about what you call them as it's difficult to rename them later.

MediaWiki:Sidebar-popular-categories is the sidebar. You must add at least one category or your wiki will display an error message.

After those, the most important messages are:

• MediaWiki:Twitter ask appears at the end of every question.
• MediaWiki:Ask a question and MediaWiki:Ask button appear in "ask bar" at the top of every page.
• Answer this question, Improve this answer, Notify answered, Notify improved are buttons under the question.
• Popular categories and Recent unanswered questions are in the sidebar

Questions with certain words are redirected to Why was my question redirected here. You should add MediaWiki:BadWords and MediaWiki:Question redirected help page on your wiki. BadWords can be customized with any words you want to block in your language.

Other messages can be found in Special:Allmessages. You can view the original English messages here. You can also see some French and German translations.

You should send a list of common words to Wikia staff so these can be implemented in the duplication feature.
