Simplified equation for losing weight is to burn off more calories than you take in. But the equation is made more complicated because it's not healthy to stop eating or do a lot of exercise. So we have to find a healthy balance.

I don't have training in this area but losing a pound a day doesn't sound unhealthy, even for a short period of time. At this rate, many of us would disappear inside of a year or more.
