chemical elements can get their names from anywhere : people , places , ect. IUPAC decides officially what the names are , they are usully related to what the element does or is used for . it may be named after the person who discovered it .Chemical elements can be named after just about anything: places, people, universities, etc. The elements get their names from the International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). For example, Darmstadtium is named after Darmstadt in Germany, and Nobelium is named after Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize.
