I have had several akitas and they all run (or lope) with a very long stride. Each stride is about the width of a one lane road and can actually look like miniature horses. With such a long stride, I have seen them run as fast as 35 mph. My current companion's name is Sebastian and I sometimes have to chase him in my car. He and other Akitas like him are quite impressive and formidable when they run. Be aware of neighbors. They will get too concerned.
