Port wine is aged in barrels

Port is a type of fortified wine. It is typically red, and sweeter than ordinary wines, though you can also get white and dry varieties. Port has a higher alcohol content than other wines.

It is usually served with desert, or as an apéritif.

In Europe, only port from Portugal is allowed to be called port. Others are instead called fortified wines or desert wines.
