Perhaps one of the future missions to Mars will tell us:
- NASA is planning to launch the Astrobiology Field Laboratory in 2016, to help answer questions about life on Mars.
- Deep drills have been advocated for future missions to sample various depths beneath the surface where, some believe, liquid water may be found and where microorganisms might survive cosmic radiation.
- Mars Sample Return Mission - The best life detection experiment proposed is the examination on Earth of a soil sample from Mars.
