From Wikianswers

The "add a question" link didn't seem to work. ?? - CocoaZen 19:46, 10 Jan 2005 (PST)

Should be fixed now. Thanks for pointing it out. Angela 21:14, 10 Jan 2005 (PST)

[edit] Future of Wikianswers

I have created Wikisolutions on wikibooks. It must be relocated to Wikianswers. I wonder how the merge can be done (and if). I would like Wikianswers to have similar sub-categories in "Computing" category. The pages can be modified a little.

More about the relocation you can find here. More about Wikisolutions you can find here and here. It seems to me Wikianswers and Wikisolutions are folowing the same goal but they have had not the same vision about how to do this. I wonder if Wikianswers could folow some of principles of Wikisolutions (maybe redefined and more flexible).

If people agree to create a policy on wikianswers that will alow the two projects to merge (most of all: not to have two answers forked, not to have the answer inside wikianswers if it is better to make some external links to other resources, and, also, beter define the question for complex answers only) then the merge can begin. Note that Wikisolutions must be deleted from wikibooks as soon as the merge is complete. moa3333

I can't really understand from the pages on Wikibooks what you are aiming to do. As far as I can see, Wikianswers isn't the right place, since this is a wiki where people ask specific questions and then people answer them, not somewhere people just write solutions. Have a look at some other wikis to see if this might fit into them: Computing Knowledgebase, Documentation, Software, or How-to. If it doesn't fit there, could you give a very concise explanation of what Wikisolutions is aiming to do? Angela (talk) 01:02, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Redirecting Wikipedia's Reference desk here

Since you all have aptly set up this wiki with its own opportunity for categorization by subject and as "Unanswered" or "Answered" (thus ensuring persistence of unanswered questions and the opportunity for others to find them later and/or the original poster to get an answer eventually) and by having its own "recent changes" allowing others to still easily see all new changes related to questions and answers, I'd suggest:

  1. We outline this rationale briefly on your main page
  2. We suggest to Wikipedia's Reference Desk and its subpages, which are already pretty well-trafficked, to consider the above rationale for relocating their discussion here, or at least to link to this site here (I can't edit Wikipedia now since the country I am in now prevents access there).

I'd also be curious of your thoughts (if there is not already consideration of this--I haven't looked much at this site yet), of billing this site also as a FAQ where people could work on categorizing knowledge according to answers that weren't being genuinely asked at the moment, but which were nevertheless FAQ (e.g., a page of questions on how to use Firefox could be started by someone familiar with common questions about the browser, even though no one here was set asking about it). I think there will be huge objections in moving anything off Wikipedia. People don't want to have to create another account, and they won't be so motivated if the pages don't appear on their usual watchlist. Compare activity of the Games wiki with the games in Wikipedia's sandbox - even for something so obviously not a part of Wikipedia's mission, people still prefer to keep activity on Wikipedia itself. [edit] Questions by date categories

What do people think of a category that could be added to pages to indicate when the question was added? You wouldn't need to manually maintain the main page's list in this case (you could instead feature questions, etc.). Also, this would also allow the interesting possibility of categorizing questions (perhaps separately) as to when the question was first asked in history (e.g., when an unanswered mathematical paradox was first formally posed)

I'm not sure the date would be helpful. I like the fact this exists in the WikiNow and it doesn't matter if questions are answered very late since we're still building up a useful resource. Angela (talk) 03:58, 12 Nov 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Clean up

I am currently trying to clean up this wiki, I need some help as I cannot delete articles.

The following should be deleted:

Also someone should remove the Current events link from MediaWiki:Sidebar Lcarsdata (Talk) 17:55, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I thought was a useful redirect for showing up in search results. Help:Editing is linked from every edit page, so it needs to exist. Please don't delete redirects since this is breaking links from external sites. They do no harm and help a lot for people trying to find an answer on something. Wikianswers is more useful for people searching for this wiki than "main page" is. Angela (talk) 05:48, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
