Oasis on Q&A Edit

I find it ironc that you post this - when the Answers wikis have just been moved to the Wikia skin. ---- RandomTime 22:32, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

There's a bug here today which means people are seeing random skins including the Wikianswers skin, monaco, and the new Wikia look. It's not supposed to be happening! Angela@Wikia (talk | help forum) 02:50, November 16, 2010 (UTC)

Any idea why my questions don't get through? Edit

The filter is quite ridiculous, and there's no feedback what in particular filter has problems with. I've been trying to figure it out with minor variations of the same question, but filter keeps being stupid. Is there any documentation for it perhaps?

Could you tell me what question you are trying to ask? If you can't save it on the wiki at all, feel free to send an email about it. Angela@Wikia (talk | help forum) 13:36, November 17, 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry to bother you Angela but these problems are happening all around Wikia and it's hard to keep up. For example, I haven't been able to ask ANY question to WikiRespuestas in at least 3 weeks. I couldn't report because I was busy and was hoping it would get fixed (with the move to Oasis I suspected these things to happen anyway), but today I checked and the recent changes list last question was from November 5. I've also had the system give me ridiculous reasons not to be able to ask questions here as well, in the past couple of months. I DID send a report, but was told by the person who answered it that he/she didn't have any problem asking the very same question; so they couldn't tell why it didn't go through for me. I just wanted to add that this doesn't sound strange to me at all, and I had to postpone many questions I wanted to make. With WikiRespuestas being completely closed to ANY question, I mean this had never happened before; a lot of strange things are happening. --Liliana (my talk). 21:31, November 18, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me. I wasn't aware of this. I'll file a bug report now. Angela@Wikia (talk | help forum) 11:03, November 19, 2010 (UTC)

Bot flag Edit

Per comment on my bot's talk page, I am requesting for a bot flag for User:HydriaBot. This bot would fix double redirects. Thanks :) Hydria 04:06, March 15, 2011 (UTC)

Badges Edit

Hey Angela, I noticed that you enabled badges here. While badges are good for picking up activity, I think that what really needs to happen in order for more people to become involved with Wikianswers is a question module, like what was in place on Monaco. When people don't know about it, nothing will happen, even with the badges.

Since they are here to stay, though, would it be possible to modify the extension slightly to be more answers-y? Badges like the "Making a difference" (for making one edit on a page) could have its description changed from "for making 1 edit on a page!" to "for answering one question!".

Thanks, Ajraddatz Talk Contribs 16:18, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

Also, on a semi-related note, do you know if a javascript editor like the old actionpanel will be re-introduced at some point in the foreseeable future? Or have the answers sites been forgotten about again. Ajraddatz Talk Contribs 04:04, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
The wording of the badges can be edited to make them fit better here. Also the images and the type of badges offered can be changed. Let me know if you have any suggestions for that (or start a forum post on it). Action panel was discontinued as it turned out to be too confusing to introduce on a wider scale. Nothing like that is planned for the near future. Angela 11:20, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

I'll support this actionpanel request. Has it been discarded or what?

Also, I am a little nonplussed at answering today, a blank answerbox does not give me access to {{subst:red}} ... when I open the question ... there is no "edit this page" button on the quickanswer box. --Whiteguru 08:28, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I have just reported that as a bug. I recommend enabling double-click editing in your preferences as it makes it very easy to edit any page without having to look for the edit button. Angela 11:20, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I did see that in my preferences and wondered if that was the soloution. I spent quite some time last night trying to find the right css file to edit to reduce the size of my editbox. I tried quite a few tweaks too. My purpose here is to have access to the editbox, and access to that row of one click template shortcuts that Molokaicreeper and a few others added - and the problem is that the editbox is so big that it is off the page once you open the question for edit. All you can see is the Publish and Preview buttons. I looked for every css file I could; MediaWiki.css, wikia.css, common.css, and on and on I searched. No joy. --Whiteguru 21:56, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
I don't know - sorry. You might be able to find help with this on the forums. Angela 11:51, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

Leave an answerEdit

On user talk pages. Just a quick one to let you know about it. That needs to be rephrased to "leave a message". --Liliana (my talk). 01:05, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

Which wiki is that happening on? It says "leave message" for me here. Angela 11:51, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Edit

What I like about you is......GOOOOOAAAAAAL! 04:04, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

Search Box Prompt Edit

How do I change the search box prompt? The changing the text on the Mediawiki page does not work. {{SUBST:User:Eladkse/Sig|17:25, 10/04/2011}} -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eladkse (talkcontribs)

If changing the message doesn't work, try adding -answers2 to the end of the page title. eg MediaWiki:Tooltip-search-answers2. Angela 07:13, April 11, 2011 (UTC)

Bad words... Edit

Hello Angela, I'm very sorry to bother you, but can you please take a look at this and help me, I only seem to see this in the answers sites, and the dreaded answer container. --Liliana (my talk). 22:10, April 25, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Edit

Thanks for the message on my blog post about Answers sites. AnnoyingOrangeandClassical PianoGABS 06:16, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

User categoryEdit

Hello Angela, just a quick one to ask if this needs to be fixed? Also this question needs some updating but not sure what to do with it. I do know for a fact that #6 is no longer. By the way, how can users reach Wikianswers from Wikia sites? I know that a bunch of people complained about that, but I can surely say I was happy with that feature. --Liliana (my talk). 03:05, May 27, 2011 (UTC)

What is the problem with the category?
At the moment, users on the relevant wikis need to add links to Wikianswers. There's no automated way for people to get here. However, we will probably be trying out more widget-type ways of showing people content from here in the future. I've commented out #6 on that page. Angela 04:53, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
Apologies for not explaining better. If I remember correctly when profiles were changed to the new design, they were no longer categorized, but I see several user profiles under that category. What I meant was, should we remove those profiles from the category, or should we start adding people's profiles into that category from now on? Is that a feature that should be considered in the future? Thanks for fixing that question, would you like me to point out the Wikianswers-help questions/answers that need updating? I remember seeing a few but was too tied up to notify you. --Liliana (my talk). 12:39, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
Some help articles like this one are outdated: Help:Wikianswers_widget. --Liliana (my talk). 12:54, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
I think it's just because someone has chosen to add those pages to the category. I don't see any reason for doing that, though it doesn't do any harm either. You're welcome to tell me about pages that need updating, though I might not have time to do too many in the immediate future. Angela 03:51, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
I'd like to point out this talk page discussion. It seems he is the one who added the people to that category. I agree with Charitwo's view of it being rather pointless, and I see no reason for keeping it any longer. --StrikerBack 05:19, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

User rights cleanup Edit

You'll have to forgive me for my inactivity. I sorta forgot and I did intend to resume my Wikianswers activity this year but with all the drastic format changing, things got a bit difficult Kaihedgie 05:12, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

Stuff on activity Edit

Hey Angela, it's pretty obvious that making the smaller answers sites has redirected quite a bit of activity from there to the local sites, and along with it most of the editors. Also, it seems that with the removal of the module thing, neither this site nor the smaller ones are very active with local users.

Anyways, I'm just curious if any plan has been devised as to how to fix this. I know that a new answers widget has been made, and is being tested on some wikis (I don't know to what success). I must say that I don't really know what the best way to go about this would be - to remove the smaller sites, and focus on the larger one, or to remove the larger one and focus on the smaller ones. Either course of action has some obvious issues, as does just leaving it the way it is.

If there is anything I can do to help in terms of planning for the future or implementing those plans, please let me know. I really like Wikianswers in concept, and would love to help it reach its full potential. Thanks, Ajraddatz Talk Contribs 17:10, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Also, on a different note, would it be possible to allow admins to add/remove bot from themselves? I quite often find myself deleting lots of pages at a time when clearing out lists, and it would be nice to not need to spam the RC when doing so. It isn't much of a problem now, though, since there isn't really an active community here. Ajraddatz Talk Contribs 22:50, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

We are thinking of ways to link the sites with wikis again so that activity picks up like it did when we had the widget. At the moment, I don't expect any sites will be removed, but your ideas of increasing focus on one or the other does make sense. Once we start working on this, I'll ask for beta testers and get in touch with you then. RecentChanges does have a 'hide logs' feature now, so you should be able to use that to hide the deletions. I expect with using the bot flag in that way you'd end up with a lot of occasions where people forget to remove it afterwards and end up with bot flags edits that shouldn't have been flagged. Angela @Wikia 23:54, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Just out of interest Edit

But we will be having rollbackers too? Dan the Man 1983 11:03, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

Bureaucrats can add those if they like. I don't have an opinion either way, so I suggest you start a forum to see if there are any objections and if not, create a requests page for people who want rollback rights here. I'm guessing it won't be such a useful right here since most of the activity is in page creation, page moves, and the first answer, rather than edits that can be rolled back. Angela @Wikia 11:12, June 27, 2011 (UTC)
You make a good point, it isn't really useful here, so I don't think I'll bother with forum topic or a requests page. Dan the Man 1983 11:16, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

I can't think of a title, but this is annoyingEdit

Somebody has changed the text on this page. I worked hard on a table for that page, and now I can't find the edit. Please help! Randomno 16:46, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Don't worry now, I've done it Randomno 17:18, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Question Edit

Is there no limit to the number of badges you can collect, or is there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RoyboyX (talkcontribs)

I don't think there are limits. Angela @Wikia 19:56, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

Archive feature Edit

Perhaps now would be a good time to introduce an archive template for forum topics that are outdated, or dead. This forum comes to mind, should I just add the feature/template to the wiki based on Wikia's usual proceedings when it comes to old forums? Of course, there are other forum topics that are dead, or even irrelevant to the changes Wikia has gone though in the past year. So this would be equally useful for them too. --Liliana (my talk). 02:14, January 26, 2012 (UTC)

Yes - sounds a good idea. Angela @Wikia 08:54, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
I've now added the feature. If this causes any disturbances to the system, feel free to revert, please! --Liliana (my talk). 03:20, January 27, 2012 (UTC)

What can we do in this situation Edit

Hello Angela, seeing that you've been quite active in the wiki and are a strong part of this community - I'd like to ask - What can we consider standard rules-of-thumb when it comes to running a bot? Can an admin run one here, let alone from his/her own account, without consulting the community prior to running it? I'm reading the suggestions on this particular wiki that mention the community knowing about the bot before it runs, and another account to do the job. Of course, also taking into consideration that the wiki needs to trust that whoever will run it; can be trusted to set it properly, etc.

I ask because one of our admins ran a bot recently (unsure how many times however) under the above mentioned conditions. We never really discussed this in the forum, so what to do? Thanks! --Liliana (my talk). 14:52, January 27, 2012 (UTC)

See section below. Angela @Wikia 09:23, January 28, 2012 (UTC)

ResignationEdit

I wish to resign my sysop privileges on this wiki. It has become apparent that a bureaucrat who no longer actively contributes to this wiki nevertheless can find the time to interfere with me trying to make the wiki a better place. I wish to resign my privileges before they can have the pleasure of removing them. Should the bureaucrat in question resign, I'll gladly reapply for a sysop role if my services are still required. Sincerely, I am not me 05:42, January 28, 2012 (UTC)

It looks like you both have the same goal of wanting to improve this wiki so I do urge you to discuss it some more and see if some solution can be found rather than resigning. I'm sure it would be a loss to Wikianswers if you left. It looks like a process for discussing new bots would be a useful starting point. Angela @Wikia 09:23, January 28, 2012 (UTC)
Unfortunately, that seems to be going nowhere. Without an impartial third-party supervising the debate, it's just degenerating into hypocritical accusations and bureaucrats trying to throw their weight around by threatening those who are asking questions. I am not me 00:58, February 1, 2012 (UTC)
So, I am not me you are confronted about several decisions you made in this wiki, without consulting the community; then you decide that it's time to go. Incidentally, you insist that Angela gets involved in the situation when you feel that you are cornered, that you lost the control you had over Wikianswers, and attempt to get her attention by an announcement of "resignation".
You complain here about an "inactive", "hypocritical" and "inept bureaucrat" who takes "pleasure" in picking on you and who all of a sudden has something against you!
You never bothered to post anything in Angela's talk page at all before, you would not bother to ask Angela something as simple as this or this... or even search the Wikianswers help articles to find this.
I am in absolute denial about your attitude I am not me. I thought I'd never see the day that someone abuses their admin power extensively and can't do something as simple as apologize to the community for all this mess.
And NO! I would NOT demote you even though I have the power to do it, because unlike you; I do not make use of my powers without having a fair community consensus.
I am very sorry about posting this here Angela, but enough is enough! I am not me is posting in your talk page for the first time, just to tell you that I am just a bureaucrat who's pushing admins around? He has been an admin for quite a long time, he should've learned to accept responsibility for his mistakes. While the information in the ticket is somewhat outdated, here's the link just in case you have any reason to review it. --Liliana (my talk). 06:44, February 1, 2012 (UTC)
Hi Angela. Sorry Angela.
User:I am not me, given that User:Molokaicreeper could have, at any point, demoted you for your behaviour and given you a short ban on top, your accusations fall flat. Instead she has simply promoted discussion, and your reactions to this have - frankly - been rather condemning.
You've even called her inactive. I'll be honest and say that a valued member of the community taking a breather for a month while administrating multiple wikis is not my personal definition of "inactive"; I am quite interested in your own definition. Important Discussion about Bots in Wikianswers Edit

Hello Angela, as an admin of this wiki you have rights to give your opinion on a discussion regarding the use of bots in the wiki. Generally, the use of bots in Wikia is done in a separate user account after approval from the community. But recently, two admins were found to be running them from their main accounts without asking for permission. I believe that all admins in this wiki have the right to know what's happening in the wiki; and that their opinions are very valuable. At this point, a resolution has not been found, but perhaps with your help we can come to one. So, would you like to Join the Discussion? Thank you and you're very welcome! --Liliana (my talk). 07:52, January 31, 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism in user pagesEdit

Hi! Most of you are already aware of the wave of vandalism in userpages we've been getting. I was thinking that perhaps protecting user pages (not talk pages) against unregistered users would be useful to keep them from vandalizing and moving them. I am thinking about sending a Special:Contact to take care of all of them. There really isn't any reason for an unregistered user to edit anyone's user page. I have raised a forum discussion here, for those who want to opt out. Please respond within a week if you disagree and you wont be included. Or you can always use your admin powers to unprotect your page in the future. I appreciate your understanding. --Liliana (my talk). 06:15, February 9, 2012 (UTC)

Hi! Edit

Hi!Thanks for the welcome.

Broken Main PageEdit

Your main page is broken. The missing contribute button causes Wikia's scripts to fail and break everything else in the process. I wrote a little hack for w:c:bleach.answers: that probably works here as well. You might want to give it a try.

Create a MediaWiki page with this content:

<script type="text/javascript">
var buttons = document.getElementsByClassName('buttons');
if (buttons.length) {
    var nav = document.createElement('nav');
    nav.setAttribute('class', 'contribute');
    nav.setAttribute('style', 'display: none;');
    buttons[0].appendChild(nav);
}
</script>

I gave the page the name "MediaWiki:ButtonLoader.js" but that's up to you of course.

And add this at the very beginning of your main page:

<verbatim>ButtonLoader.js</verbatim>

Note that the verbatim tag expects the MediaWiki page name to be without the "MediaWiki:" prefix.

I hope this works for you! :) -- pecoes 08:24, July 21, 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for your message. I've copied it to the forum so other admins can look into the issue. Thanks, Angela (talk) 11:28, July 21, 2012 (UTC)

Anonymous page movesEdit

Hi, Angela. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on how/if to restrict anonymous page moves after some recent vandliasm. I've created a thread on the forum here. Sincerely, I am not me (talk) 23:48, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

Darn+Helping out Edit

Oh Darn. Hmm, Surely I am too new to apply for RfA? Is there any other way I would be able to help out?--Byzantine95 (talk) 03:53, October 23, 2012 (UTC)

Ahh Alright. Thanks on both ends. I put it a request for supervisor at RfA, so let's see how it goes.:) --Byzantine95 (talk) 04:15, October 23, 2012 (UTC)

Re: Edit

I agree, that is very odd. I do think I know what the problem is (concerning the regex). Thanks for informing me of the issue! Hair (talk)

I think I know the problem, it searches for text on all of your talk page.. something might rise up from that. I'm looking into using action=compare so it just gets the revision that user did, but will have to be worked out on a date such as tomorrow. Sorry for any trouble (HairyBot will be down for the rest of the night just for safe keeping). Hair (talk)

History of the Answerswiki Edit

Hi Angela. While I was updating the welcome templates with new and cool looking ones, me and I am not me (and Ozank if you count) will be remaking the main page. But, we will also add a section like "History of the Answerswiki" and we don't know what happened during the start and we need some details.

Will you help us make couple of paragraphs explaining some cool facts and stuff about this? Then I'll add it to my sandbox and will update the main page when we are done.

Thank you, Jr Mime (talk) 22:01, December 18, 2012 (UTC)

Looks good! Thanks Angela. Jr Mime (talk) 21:44, December 19, 2012 (UTC)

Unused FileEdit

Hello, Angela!. A file you uploaded, File:WikiaSearch.png, is not currently being used on any pages. Please add it to a page or tag it for deletion if it is no longer needed or useful. Thank you. I am a bot (talk) 00:09, December 23, 2012 (UTC)

Bot Edit

I'm sorry about the bot. It's supposed to substitute the template on the page for each file, but for some reason it is overwriting the original. I will disable that portion of the bot for the time being. Sincerely, I am not me (talk) 00:22, December 23, 2012 (UTC)

If you want to delete a wiki, you need to contact staff via special:contact. There is some information about this at How can I request the closure of a Wikia site. Angela (talk) 15:17, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Ummm...since your a staff.. Edit

Mind If I get a ask box? I asked wikia and they didn't respond to me. If not, that's okay.
