More REALLY good suggestionsEdit

My watchlist doesn't trigger on the Userboard, so I probably won't get Interwiki "New Message" notifications for replies to that. The messages aren't threaded either. this is just so not integrated with the rest of wikia. --◄mendel► 02:25, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

And I click on the link to User:M.mendel in my sig because it redlinks as http://answers.wikia.com/index.php?title=User:M.mendel&action=edit&redlink=1 and instead of getting to a page I can edit I go to Special:UpdateProfile? W T F ? --◄mendel► 02:27, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

The point of having a "real name" setting in prefs is that my attribution can be credited (action=credits). The point of having a username is that other people can think of me as my nickname. Now displaying my real name on my public user profile is a bit unexpected, and I can't change it without forfeiting my credits on the other wikia wikis. --◄mendel► 02:40, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

There are two types of wiki talk conventions: those where users keep a conversation on the page where it was started (like we do now), and those where people reply on each other's talkpages (this is how the userboard works). I find the latter inferior. In addition, while I can call up a view that has both our messages in chronological order, nobody else can really join in our conversation. --◄mendel► 02:55, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

To be fair, I find the latter to be superior on wikis I don't frequent. On such wikis, I might not remember to go back and check whether something I posted on somebody else's talk page have been replied, but I'll certainly get notified if he replies on my page. Consider this scenario: PanSola "befriends me", as a result I get sent an email. If this email gets "lost", there is nothing on the site thatI could find that tells me of this, and even if PanSola befreends me again, I get no new email. I'd have expected that "friend" requests are visible via my profile somehow. Also, I don't see where I can "un-friend" somebody if I don't like them any more. --◄mendel► 20:45, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Mendel - there are a lot of things that are not perfect about our social code. Consider it a beta that needs a lot of work, but is unfortunately not high priority right now... Hence our decision to keep wiki user/talk pages, so you have your choice :-) Gil (talk)

We could, the challenge is knowing WHICH wiki to add, since we have 11,000 and there are so many varieties of questions - but it's a cool thought. Won't go super-high on the priority list though :-( Gil (talk)

What about a simple inputbox until you can make something better? You could have two options, wikipedia or "Research this at http://<input>.wikia.com" (wow.wikia.com doubles as wowwiki.com so that's not a problem). Ose^t•c 20:28, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

The inline ad (only seen when not logged in) on The Twin Blades of Azzinoth mentioned at WoWWiki_talk:Working_with_Wikia#Gigantic_js-inserted_killerguides_ads has several problems:

No editor (or admin) control over where it appears.
Not clear how it knows context so it will makes sense for the page.
Needs more padding.

File names Edit

Using generic file names such as Images.jpg or Images-1.jpg is often the case for confusion, and sometimes users accidentally upload other pictures with that name, replacing them. "Cortana" and "Cortana-1" would have been better names. Please consider moving or re-uploading them. --◄mendel► 14:07, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Removing rude (and incorrect) answers Edit

Hi, Gil! Good to hear from you! Unfortunately this writer seems to have spent hours one day creating a lot of non-answers or posting incorrect responses. (So far I haven't found a single one that seems to be intended to contribute.) :-( I don't think I'll have time to clean them all up tonight (already past my bedtime -- wiki and insomnia make an interesting combination). I don't know if there's a place to leave an ID for collaborative clean-up of a non-contributing poster like this one? Oh well... -- CocoaZen 06:32, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

This appears to be a story about something and not an answer to a question.

A three part reply doesn't seem to be an answer to a question. Might this be better on another wiki?

Pet Diabetes Wiki/Canine Diabetes Wiki Edit

I am no longer editing the Pet Diabetes Wiki and there's no one there on a regular basis to field Wikia Answers questions.

I started Canine Diabetes Wiki [1] a little over a month ago but I'm not getting the Canine Diabetes Wikia Answers questions on my wiki's widget for it.

Is there some way these questions about canine diabetes could be re-directed to the Canine Diabetes Wiki? Am willing to answer them if they'd somehow get directed to my wiki.

Hi Gil -- I'm still editing the Pet Diabetes Wiki and will be happy to answer Wikia Answers questions regarding feline diabetes. How can I get involved? Also regarding your request, I'll be happy to swap links with the Pets wiki, and if you can try to direct questions including "diabetes" or "diabetic" over to my wiki or the Canine wiki, I'd be most grateful.
