For a very simple version of this experiment, one would need only a magnet, some iron filings (or similar material), a flat surface (such as a tabletop), and something thin and easy to see through (such as a pane of glass or clear plastic bag).
Spread the filings on the flat surface, placing the glass on top. Glass is ideal because you can see through it more easily. Then manipulate the magnet on top of the glass, recording the shape of the iron filings. Then change the temperature of the magnet (such as placing it in the refrigerator for an hour) and repeat the experiment.
