As the question is vague, it is assumed you refer to the Battle of the Hornburg at Helm's Deep.

Tolkien: Towards the end of the Battle of the Hornburg Gandalf brought with him Erkenbrand, lord of the Westfold (the western region of Rohan), and a thousand soldiers on foot, who had before been statoned at the Fords of Isen, the western border of Rohan.

Peter Jackson's film: Gandalf brings Éomer and his Éored at the Battle of Helm's deep. The Éored and Éomer was banished from Rohan and therefore Gandalf had to go look for them, and thats why it 5 days until they arrived since Gandalf told Aragorn to look to the East at the fifth day.
