The Reconstruction Era is the common name for the period in United States history covering the post-Civil War era in the entire United States between 1865 and 1877.

It is generally regarded that this period achieved very little forward progress. Although the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments (the anti-slavery, citizenship and equal voting rights by race amendments) were passed and ratified, Reconstruction is largely associated with repression of blacks via other methods, a dramatic rise in government corruption and the emergence of paramilitary groups.
