I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that, but constellations are a group of stars that form a pattern or picture. An example of one would be Cleopatra. The big and little dippers are not constellations. They're asterisms - pictures inside a constellation. They reside in Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, the big and little bears.
