What is the difference between Java and JavaScript?

They were created by two different companies and are unrelated. (Javascript was named to capitalise on Javas popularity)

The technical difference is that Javascript is an interpreted language that runs in a web browser. (a program is required to run it's code) while Java is a compiled language. (it's code is turned into a self executing program).
