Edison is credited for contributing to various innovation, including the phonograph, the kinetoscope, the dictaphone, radio, the electric lamp (in particular the incandescent light bulb), the autographic printer, and the tattoo machine. Edison was a prolific inventor of his time and it is reported that he holds a record 1,093 American patents in his name. Most of these inventions were not completely original but improvements of earlier patents. Many of his patents were actually made by his employees - Edison patented their work and did not share the credit of the innovation.
