What would the consequences to replication be if DNA polymerase I lost its 5’ to 3’ exonuclease activity?

I'm not even sure that DNA replication would be possible. 5' to 3' is such an essential part of replication that without it, polymerase would just cut randomly i think. Also, all of the other enzymes would be completly lost and would likely be rendered useless. Fortunatly, I don't think that this is likely to happen!
