Ho Chi Minh was the first president of North Viet Nam, so call Viet Cong. He died during the duration of the Vietnam war due to health complications. After the North won the war, in honor of their first leader, named the former Southern Capital City, Saigon into Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh was a part of Viet Minh, one of the anti-French rebelion group before the Vietnam War. As the French left the country, Ho neutralized other rivals and Viet Minh became the predecessor of Viet Cong, stands for Vietnamese Communists.
He first went to France as a young boy, attempted to apply to the French University but was denied. He was later went to Russia and was exposed to Lenin's and Marx's ideology. He returned to Vietnam as a communist after that.
