Roy Fox Lichtenstein (October 27, 1923 – September 29, 1997) was a prominent American artist and one of the main figures of the Pop Art movement. His early work was heavily influenced by both popular advertising and the comic book style (many of his paintings resembled snippets of comic book strips). From the 1970's onwards, his paintings became more surrealistic, and he also produced notable sculpture works. He himself described Pop Art as, "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting".
