Why are traits that controlled by recessive alleles on the X chromosomes are more common in males than in females?

Males (XY) have only one copy of the X chromosome, while females (XX) have two. The net result of this is that most recessive genes carried on the X chromosome will take effect in males (because there is no corresponding dominant gene to override the effect).
