the Gregorian calendar was perceived to be a catholic intervention (Papal Bull of Pope Gregory XIII), thus rejected by protestants. A gradual introduction did not work, and was dropped. It was fully instated 190 years after the bull with a loss of 11 days, which supposedly caused an uproar.
