The Earth's Moon has a peculiar orbit such that one side is always facing the earth as it moves around the earth. Strangely the rate at which the moon rotates itself matches the rate around the earth that it orbits. It also happens to rotate on the same plane (angle of rotation) as its orbit. Because the Moon's orbit and rotation times are the same, the satellite always shows the same face to Earth.[1]
