when you multiply any number with a negative number, the outcome is the opposite of the original.

examples: 2 x 2 = 4, 2 x -2 = -4 and -2 x -2 = 4 (as told, the negative number oppsites the outcome, so you would get the opposite of negative 4, which is positive 4.)
